at some point in our lives, we may feel stuck or face overwhelming challenges.

Reaching out for help from somebody on the outside can help. You may have started the process by talking with a friend, family member, doctor, or pastor. The next step you take will be important as you seek professional counseling. LifeWorks Counseling is here for you, skilled at listening, caring and hearing you. We can help you to see more clearly what’s going on and help you develop better coping skills, become more resilient, find meaning, peace and make life work.

Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads and father figures! We appreciate everything you do.
Boundaries can be hard, especially for people who are looking to establish them for the first time! Setting boundaries, speaking up for ourselves, carrying ourselves with confidence - knowing that this will likely come with people misunderstanding, disliking or pushing back, or even falling away from the relationships. There can be discomfort when experiencing these shifts in relationships. It can cause pain and bring up old wounds that stop us from making the boundaries in the first place. However, we can choose to take ownership and gain confidence in how we want to be treated. By establishing these boundaries and gaining confidence we actually can gain more fulfilling relationships!

If you need help in finding your courage and how to begin your boundary-setting journey, we are here to help you through it!

Spend some time today reflecting on how you spend your time worrying! Our minds can so easily think of the worst possible outcome, but if we shift our mindset it becomes harder to catastrophize.

Summer is here! Summer and childhood are a magical combination! It can also be challenging for the adults in the children’s lives, where they might feel that they are not doing enough or there is too much going on to stop and breathe.

Following these tips can help support your kids’ mental health and well-being during the summer months.

☀ Stay active - Encourage outdoor games, sports, or simply playing in the backyard to boost their mood and use their energy.
☀ Create a routine - Children thrive with structure! Establish a daily schedule that includes activities, free time, and relaxation to promote stability.
☀ Embrace creativity - Support kids in exploring interests during this time! This could be art, music, or writing to allow for self-expression and confidence building.
☀ Stay connected - Arrange playdates or outings to help kids maintain and build friendships and social skills.
☀ Practice self-care - Use this time to prioritize healthy eating, sleep habits, and hydration!
☀ Take breaks and relax - It is summer after all! This is the time to allow kids to have downtime and engage in activities to help them manage stress and anxiety.

These tips and the magic of childhood create a sense of wonder, adventure, and happiness that can build skills that last a lifetime!

Continuing with Mental Health Awareness Month and Anxiety Awareness Month, here are some ways to combat anxiety!

1. Practice deep breathing and progressive relaxation exercises. Focusing on your breath and your body can help to stall the running commentary of negative thoughts and worries.

2. Challenge your thought processes. Part of managing anxiety is getting to know your own thought processes!

3. Get to know your triggers. Recognize the things that always provoke anxiety for you, and go into those situations with a plan of how you are going to deal with them.

4. Cut yourself some slack. Dealing with anxiety is difficult. There will be when you feel completely out of control, and days when the anxiety takes over making you feel that you have made no progress at all.

Mental health and anxiety is a journey! Showing yourself some kindness and grace can go a long way.
